A New Chapter Every Week
Every Sunday, I’ll update at least one of my four short story series: Empath and Apath, The Cursed Prince, Becoming a Bard, and Cuddle Puppy. Through these tales, I explore real-life challenges in fun, fictional (mainly fantasy) settings.
As a writer, I’ve always been a “planner,” meticulously plotting out my stories. However, I’ve realized this approach can trap me in a cycle of over-planning and perfectionism. By sharing these stories chapter by chapter, I’m challenging myself to embrace a more spontaneous, “pantser” writing style. Each story serves its unique purpose and helps me grow as a writer. I hope they resonate with you, whether you’re seeking entertainment, an escape, or a way to process your own challenges.
Initially, I considered waiting until these stories were complete before sharing them, but I decided to try this new approach. While I’m unsure if I’ll continue this method long-term, my current plan is to update the stories weekly for the first month and then bi-weekly afterward, adapting as needed to life’s challenges. Sharing my stories has always motivated me greatly, so I’m excited to begin this journey with you through my Sharing Sunday posts!

Becoming a Bard tells the story of an academic mage who discovers her true calling in storytelling—a metaphor for my path to becoming a writer. Like the mage, I’ve struggled with societal expectations and the pressure to pursue more “traditional” careers. This story helps me overcome challenges as I strive to become a published author. Each chapter is part of a larger narrative that reflects my own struggles and triumphs.

The Cursed Prince is my way of coping with chronic pain. The story of a prince cursed from a young age reflects my struggle with chronic pain in my 20s—a journey that’s been both physically and emotionally challenging. While I’ve made progress with the help of medical professionals, this story continues to be a way for me to process my experiences. I’ve outlined more of this story, including subplots and additional moving pieces, so it may eventually become a part of a larger novel. For now, each post will be a short chapter in a longer narrative, with pacing that mirrors my personal journey.

This romance follows an empath who meets someone she can’t read—an experience inspired by my marriage. My spouse and I are on opposite ends of the empathy spectrum, and this story helps me explore how our differences both challenge and complement each other. While the story begins linearly, it will evolve into episodic chapters, and I plan to wrap it up with a finale, much like a TV show.

Cuddle Puppy is a lighthearted, slice-of-life series told from the perspective of my 9-pound terrier mix, Bella Rose. Narrating Bella’s adventures has always been one of my greatest joys, so turning them into a series felt natural. Unlike my other stories, this one doesn’t mirror any struggles but instead celebrates the joy Bella brings into my life. Most chapters are standalone short stories or flash fiction so you can jump in anywhere. Some recurring themes, like Secret Agent Puppy, will be numbered for easy reference.
