Writer Challenge #7: Write a Scene from a Different Perspective

Writing from the perspective of a different character can help you get a bird’s eye view of what you’re writing without concern for making it fit perfectly within your book (since it will likely be cut, anyway). That’s why for this week’s Saturday Summons, I challenge all you writers out there to re-write a scene from a different character’s point of view.

You may choose a different main character to write from, or you can choose a random bystander who watches the events unfold. You may choose to write in third or first person—either choice will work for this challenge. The goal is to explore how the shift in perspective changes the tone, emotions, and focus of the scene. You may also gain additional insight into weak points in your plot or discover how to tie two scenes together more seamlessly.

Happy (re-)writing, all!
