Writer Challenge #6: 100-Word Scene

Sometimes, it’s difficult for a writer to know where to trim down a story. That’s why, for this week’s Saturday Summons, I challenge all you writers out there to write an engaging scene using exactly 100 words.

It’s amazing what you can do when focused on keeping only the essentials in your writing. Flash fiction has earned a big reputation because these bite-sized stories are engaging and fun to read in a limited time. Even if you don’t want to be a flash fiction writer, this exercise can help you learn where you can trim down some unnecessary words in your writing.

To help everyone get started, my posts on Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest (to be recapped on Writing Wednesday) will be prompts of 10 words or less to get you right into the action!

Happy writing!
