Writing Prompts: Dialogue Only

This week, I decided to write some dialogue-only prompts. The wonderful thing about dialogue-only prompts is that the author is responsible for describing the imagery, not the prompt writer. Using dialogue-only prompts is helpful because they allow the author to be very creative.

Also, if you take up the Saturday Summons challenge, you can use one of these prompts to kickstart a dialogue-only scene.

In addition to my website, you can find all my daily writing prompts on Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook!

Writing Prompts

Mystery:
“Every person who’s seen the painting has disappeared. We don’t know where or how.”
“So I’m going to disappear now?”
“I did tell you not to look…”

Romance:
“You kissed me earlier. Can we talk about it?”
“It didn’t mean what you think.”
“Then enlighten me.”

General Fiction:
“After all these years, I didn’t expect to see you here.”
“Some people never change.”
“You can come to the same café, but you can’t avoid how life changes you.”
“I can try.”

Fantasy:
“Magic always comes at a price. Are you sure you’re willing to pay it?”
“If it means saving them, I’ll pay whatever it takes.”

Science Fiction:
“The AI’s malfunctioning. If we don’t shut it down, it’ll kill us.”
“Yeah, but if we shut it down, we’re still going to die.”
“Yes, but more slowly.”
“So you have a plan?”
“In progress.”

Animal POV:
“You think you can be the next alpha just because you’re bigger? Size isn’t everything.”
“No, but it sure helps keep fools like you in line.”

Thriller: “You killed them. Why?”
“Oh, I didn’t kill them, but I know who did. And they’re closer than you think.”

My Favorite Prompt of the Week:
