Self-reflection is a beautiful tool for everyone, and creating a fictional story around real problems can prove incredibly enlightening. For this week’s Saturday Summons, I challenge all you writers to choose a negative trait about yourself, create a character who embodies that trait fully, and then write a short story (or a few) about that character and how they overcome the negative trait and find that it can be positive, too.
If you’re hesitant to write about personal experiences, check out my short story series Empath and Apath, Becoming a Bard, and The Cursed Prince, where I explore the struggles in my life every Sharing Sunday. In these stories, I picked one trait I didn’t like about myself or was struggling with, and then I created a whole story series about it.
If you still don’t want to write about your struggles, I encourage you to explore a self-reflection of the main character in your current story instead.
Happy writing!
