Princess Puppy

Hello! My name is Bella Rose, and I am a cuddle puppy. Today, I want to tell you something super important—I am also a princess!

Momma and Daddy have given me lots of names over the years, but one of their favorites is “Princess Puppy.” At first, I didn’t know much about being a princess, but Momma said it means I’m spoiled. There are lots of domains to being a Princess Puppy, but the top three are attitude, treatment, and duties.

Princess Puppy Attitude

Princess Puppy Attitude is apparently when I decide to do things the way I want, not the way Momma and Daddy want. But in my defense, lots of times there are things that I need, so I have to make sure that they know!

Momma says I’m a Princess Puppy on walks, but it’s not my fault that I like to roam! I’ve never had my own backyard, so walks are my only time to explore! Momma got me a 30-foot leash so I could have more freedom, and she says not every dog gets “freedom walks,” so I’m pretty special. Some puppies don’t even get walks at all! Puppies need walkies!

Daddy says I’m definitely a princess when it comes to outdoor time. I love sunbathing, and sometimes, when I ask to go outside, I don’t actually have to potty—I just want to lie in the sun! At Gramma and Pop Pop’s house, it’s easier because they have a tie-out for me, but at the apartment, Momma and Daddy got frustrated when I interrupted their work for sunbathing. But is it my fault I love the sun? My kitty brothers, Quinton and Quincy, love sunbathing too, but they stay inside. I’m just being considerate by not taking their indoor sun spots since they can’t go outside!

Momma called me the “princess of the blankets” because if there is a pile of blankets (or clothes), I’ll lie on top of them all. But if they pile all the blankets on the bed and take forever to get ready, what puppy wouldn’t jump on top and fall asleep? Momma and Daddy normally let me lie there for a bit before moving me so they can sleep too. It’s not like I wanted to hog the covers, but why do they take so long to snuggle in, anyway?

Momma says I’m also a Princess Puppy because I try to hog all the attention from the other puppies in the house. Gramma and Pop Pop have two dogs—Toby and Leia—but I’m used to being an only puppy. My kitty brothers don’t ask for as much attention as Toby and Leia do. Momma says I’m a princess because I demand her lap if she’s holding one of the others, but I have to train her somehow!

Princess Puppy Treatment

Daddy and Momma say Princess Puppy Treatment is when I get spoiled with extra things that other puppies don’t get.

For instance, I used to get lots of yummy treats all the time! I got them for going potty, coming inside, doing tricks, and just for being cute! I don’t get as many now since my tummy can’t handle them very well, but Daddy still says I’m a Princess Puppy, so I get belly rubs if I have hit my treat limit for the day. Honestly, it’s not my fault that getting older makes my tummy sensitive! They should come up with a solution for this so that Princess Puppies can get treats all the time, even as they get older!

Momma says I get Princess Puppy Treatment for my “Princess Puppy Paws.” I hate squelching through wet grass or a rainy sidewalk. Sometimes, I refuse to go outside unless Momma goes with me. But to be fair, her bathroom is always dry! So it’s only fair she suffers through the misery of wet grass and rain with me, right?

Daddy also calls me Princess Puppy because I have special “Princess Puppy Spots.” I have a doggy bed or blanket in every room, including both Daddy’s and Momma’s workrooms. They also placed them on a Princess Puppy Perch so I could look out the window! I told Daddy I’m a Cuddle Puppy, too, so I need all the beds and blankets. He says it’s still Princess Puppy Treatment to have so many snuggle spots. I don’t get it (every puppy should have lots of cuddle spots!), but as long as I get cuddles in my spots, I won’t complain.

Since we moved to Gramma and Pop Pop’s house, I’ve also started using a specific path that Daddy calls the “Princess Puppy Pathway.” Seriously, though—why walk through grass when there’s a perfectly good pathway from the sidewalk to the front door? Sometimes the grass grows so fast it’s half my height before they mow! It may seem like nothing to their big human feet, but a tiny puppy like me needs a clear walkway! If Momma and Daddy cut through the grass, they know to allow me enough space to walk up the driveway and sidewalk so that I don’t have to put my puppy paws in the grass. I think it’s just considerate.

Princess Puppy Duties

Being a Princess Puppy isn’t all fun and games. I have responsibilities!

My first duty is cuddles. You might think, “But you’re a Cuddle Puppy, isn’t that just more Princess Puppy Treatment?” Well, yes and no. When I want cuddles, it’s Princess Puppy Treatment. But when Momma or Daddy need cuddles, it’s my puppy duty to be there. If they’re sad, I immediately hop into their lap and give them snuggles. They give me pets in return, which seems fair pay for my Princess Puppy Duties.

I also make sure Momma and Daddy go to bed and wake up at decent times. I’m not as strict as Quincy when he’s hungry, but if they sleep in too long, I make sure they get up. I also remind them when it’s bedtime—around 9:30 pm- I start telling them it’s time to sleep. It’s once of my Princess Puppy Duties, but I need my beauty sleep, too!

Another responsibility is helping them exercise. I ask for walks several times a day, and we’ve settled on 2-3 walkies daily. Morning and evening walks are short, but the afternoon ones are longer, so I don’t complain. Over the years, I’ve trained them to understand that three walkies a week isn’t enough—they need to stay active as they get older!

I have more responsibilities, but these are my top priorities. I try not to focus on more than three because, well, I can’t count past three!

Finally, Momma and Daddy say I’m a Princess Puppy simply because they want me to be. They love me so much, and I love them with all my heart. I’m so lucky to be their Princess Puppy!

Wishing everyone joy from the happiest Princess Puppy,
Bella Rose
