Writing Prompts: A Call to Action

For today’s Writing Wednesday, I decided to make the theme “a call to action.” In this week’s prompts, the main characters are either enticed or threatened to go on an adventure.

In addition to my website, you can find all my daily writing prompts on Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook!

Writing Prompts

  • Romance: At the end of the concert, Mia discovered a note under her seat along with a single red rose. The note read, “Meet me by the fountain at midnight.” Her heart raced excitedly, wondering who could have left it and whether she should go.

  • Mystery: The small town of Windego had always been quiet, with visitors rarely staying longer than an afternoon. But since the outsider Mr. Lee opened a bookstore in the city, people had been mysteriously disappearing. The townsfolk dismissed the occurrences until Kenzie, Jordan’s sister, reappeared one morning. Jordan wasn’t sure if Mr. Lee was behind the disappearances, but he was determined to uncover the truth—if only to avenge Kenzie’s death.

  • General: A package arrived at Sam’s door with no return address. Intrigued, Sam opened it to find an old journal and a note that read, “Read this and meet me where the story ends.”

  • Science Fiction: Jared was sorting through his inbox when he came across a curious email titled “Advice for My Future Self.” Hoping for a laugh on this dreary day, he opened it to find a detailed and specific account of a catastrophe that was supposed to happen today and how to avoid it. The email was signed, “Hoping this reaches you on the correct day, Future Jared.”

  • Thriller: A blackout hit the dorm just as Kevin sat down to work on his term paper. Frustrated, he glanced out the window, hoping to see another building with power and Internet, but all he saw was darkness. A sudden knock on the door jolted him to his feet. Cautiously, he opened the door to find his roommate, Shawn, clutching his side to apply pressure to a large wound. “We need to leave. Now.”

  • Fantasy: A deadly plague swept through the town, leaving most adults incapacitated. The village elder concluded her tale about a hidden valley she once visited, where the river was believed to cure any ailment. She lamented that she couldn’t embark on the quest herself but wished the brave adventurers good luck. When Eva, Finn, and Chester learned that the adult adventurers planned only to seek help from other towns, they decided to find the river themselves and cure their people.

  • Animal POV (Dog): A treasure! Buddy couldn’t believe his eyes. While digging holes in the backyard to find the bone he buried last week, he uncovered a buried teddy bear. Buddy was puzzled about how it ended up there but was certain its owner must be missing such a treasured toy. He carefully pulled the bear from the hole, making sure not to tear it, and decided he should find its owner.
