Hello! My name is Bella Rose, and I’m a Yorkie/Norfolk terrier mix cuddle puppy! Momma said I should explain a few things in my first post, so here goes!
My Breed
Momma found me as a stray at a shelter, so she’s not 100% sure what breed I am. She says I had dark black markings on my brown fur when I was little and looked a lot like a Yorkshire Terrier—except for my curly tail and my semi-soft, semi-wire fur. But as I got older, my fur lightened up. Most of the black is gone now, except for a little bit on my ears. Speaking of my ears, they don’t stand straight up, but they don’t flop down either. Momma says they’re called “semi-erect” ears.
The rest of my fur is a mix of brown, light brown, and tan. The brown along my spine is darker, but it gets lighter as you move down my sides until my belly is almost white! My tail curls all the way up to my back, which I love because when I wag it, it’s like a little curly cue! When my fur changed color and Momma noticed my curly tail, she did some research and said I look more like a Norfolk Terrier now.
I don’t care much about my breed (a puppy is a puppy!), but Momma says knowing this stuff makes humans happy—and I like making people happy. 🙂 I think I’ll ask Momma to post a picture of me so everyone can see what kind of puppy I really am!
The Perfect Cuddle Size
I haven’t mentioned Daddy yet, but that’s because I didn’t meet him until I was two and a half years old. When we first met, he seemed to like cats better than puppies, but once he realized I was the “perfect cuddle size,” he started loving me just as much as Momma does. I love having a momma and a daddy to take care of me!
Momma never said I was the “perfect cuddle size” before, but if Daddy says so, it must be true! He’s really smart about these things. He grew up with big dogs, so he didn’t know how much joy a 10-pound puppy could bring. Since I love cuddling more than anything, I’m very happy Daddy thinks I’m just the right size for it!
Cuddle Positions
Did you know there are a gazillion ways to cuddle? I know because my mission is to try as many cuddle positions as possible! Daddy and Momma call me a cuddle puppy because I can find a nook to snuggle into anywhere. I’ve got lots of favorites, but the best cuddles are always with Daddy or Momma.
I have a bunch of solo cuddle positions—like the donut, the drape, the side flop, and the bread loaf. I mostly cuddle solo in the donut shape because I like to be all tight and cozy. But my absolute favorite cuddle position is with Momma and Daddy, which we call “combined cuddling.” It’s kinda like a sandwich with me, the puppy, in the middle! It’s the bestest way to feel warm, cozy, and comfortable.
Cuddling in blankets is a must for me. Momma and Daddy quickly learned that if one of them has a soft, cozy blanket, I’ll cuddle with that person first. They buy me the softest blankets (Sherpa blankies), and who wouldn’t want to snuggle in those? I’ll even burrow underneath to get all warm and comfy!
When I’m with Momma or Daddy, I sometimes have to find a tight space and squeeze myself in for cuddles. When Daddy lies on his back, I snuggle between his legs. When Momma lies on her side, I curl up against her tummy, and she drapes her arm over me. When they’re sitting on the couch (something about video games or TV?), I’ll either snuggle by their hip, on the back of the couch by their heads, or between their legs.
Since I like to snuggle even when Daddy and Momma are working, they make sure I have a snuggle spot in every room! There’s a bed in Daddy’s workroom, Momma’s workroom, and the bedroom. Plus, puppy blankets are on the couches in the living room, Daddy’s room, and the bedroom. Momma and Daddy say I’m spoiled and a princess, but what kind of puppy wouldn’t want all the cuddles and snuggles?
I’ll tell you all about my life as a cuddle puppy and other fun things as I share my thoughts in the Cuddle Puppy series. I hope you liked my first puppy post!
Wishing you all the bestest snuggles and cuddles!
Bella Rose
